About Me

My photo
My name is Anna, and I work as a primary school teacher in greater London. I love eating pizza and watching TV with my husband. I also love painting glass, and any other crafty pursuits that give me a chance to make a mess! I am on a bit of a mission to learn how to cook, bake, sew and generally make things before I have children. I'm trying to learn something new each day. I really value your support, so thank you for following me xx

Handmade Monday

I'm feeling more optimistic as these Sundays go on - 2 more weeks until the Easter Holidays Yippee! What will I do with my free time I wonder... :)

Actually - my little brother has asked me to help him make a large ring cushion, to go around a circular bed for his friend. It still takes me half an hour to thread my sewing machine so not sure how that little project will go! (Any advice welcome!)

Anyhoo, not had much free time this week but managed a couple of bits:

This vase was painted using an image from The Graphics Fairy. It's supposed to be a crescent moon with roses, but my husband thought it was a dolphin. Here's to hoping he just wasn't wearing his glasses!

I made this little sweets jar for my friends little boy - Dev. I have 3 jars left so may put this up as an example on Folksy - although I am a bit nervy about putting up things that I have got physically sitting upstairs!

These are an engagement present. The light isn't great but the hearts are different shades of sparkly purple.

Well, thats all folks. Don't forget to check out HandMade Monday on Wendy's 1st Unique Gifts.

Can I look now? Is the week over?

Wow - what a week!
A leaky radiator in the crafty room came through the ceiling, a headache that lasted an epic 4 days,  and I take 90 children on a trip on the hottest day of the year so far and forget to put on deodorant!

Time to sit down with a cup of tea now then and look at beautiful things that make me feel better!

I thought the tags made by this seller on folksy were beautiful, and am trying really hard to think of an excuse to by some.

Large imageAfter cleaning my car for the first time in a year, I'm tempted to treat it to something to hang from the rear view mirror.

Oh my goodness...these are just wonderous: although not convinced it would help the already failing diet if my hands smelt like jammy dodger!

Finally,  with cake and biscuits well and truly on the brain,  I noticed this cake stand and was rather intrigued!

Hope you've had a good week and an even better weekend! xx

Handmade Monday

I bit premature to write this on a Sunday morning, I know. But, I'm trying to put off cleaning the bathroom :)

This week I was ...

...jumping for joy!

As I sold my first ever item to a complete stranger. Hip, hip, hurray! The bird wine glass that everyone was so nice about last week sold within 2 hours of being on Folksy - which just blew my mind and left me smiling for about 3 days.

So I decided to make a larger version and also try out another vintage bird design from The Graphics Fairy:

I have also been making some champagne glasses on request. I spent ages thinking about what I should put on a glass for a retiring male electrician  - and eventually settled for something simple:

I would just like to thank everyone again for their lovely comments and support over the last few weeks. I'm so glad I was invited to join in with Handmade Monday as I've discovered some amazing blogs and had some wonderful feedback from lovely people.

Hand Made Monday

My highlight of the week was discovering a stunning picture of a bluebird on The Graphics Fairy's Blog (check out brag Monday) which I put on to a wine glass. It has a little envelope in it's beak which I am going to leave blank in case someone would like it to say a particular name.

I'm not sure that I am entirely recovered from last St Patrick's day, so I will be staying home this year. So I have made my friend Joan an Irish Coffee Glass to make up for being a wimp and not hitting the pubs:

And finally, my clever little brother got his A Level results on Tuesday - and I thought this would be a good excuse to have a go at making a card. Let me know if you get the joke (hint - they are meant to be clogs!)

Don't forget to check out the other Hand Made Mondays!

Friday Night Cocktails: Spring Time

Inspired by some glorious weather this week I came  up with a 'Spring Time' cocktail and painted  a glass to match it.

The cocktail contains cranberry, apple and lemonade which are represented by the colours on the glass. It also has just a splash of Malibu to give you a hint that summer is on it's way!

It has two spring birds on the front and butterflies around the side and on the base.

Hope you like it!
(Up on Folksy now!)

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good!

Yesterday I remade a wine glass that I previously designed for a friend. It was one of the first things I ever made, but is one of my favourites. Here's how I made ' Accio Wine!'

First, I used black outliner to trace the writing.

Then I used a felt tip to draw the lines for the harlequin pattern and went over this with outliner. When the outliner was dry I wiped off the pen.

Next, I added large stars using outliner.

When dry,  I filled the harlequin squares with colour and waited for it to dry (again).

Then I painted the stars.

The last thing to do was to fill in the black writing (can't seem to get this image to behave!)

24hrs later, it went into the oven...

...and it's now up on Folksy. Hope you like it!

Weekend Antics and Hand Made Monday

I've been feeling a little glum this weekend as I seem doomed to never sell anything (cue sad music). However, I am ploughing on and painting everything in sight! Here are a few things that have burst out of my imagination, kicking and screaming:

Earlier today my random scribble (girl with balloon) and Mr Husband's random scribble (boy with robot) made it onto some jam jars.

I'll just be 5 minutes...

Folksy browsing is far too addictive.

Within 5 minutes of browsing I had bought this lovely sign for my friend's birthday:

Here are some other things I would love to be mine (sigh):

This is from Etsy, but I'd include it because it reminds me of my husband:

White Lace and Promises

After many hours of toil, I decided what to do with my impulse lace buy.

I was hoping to use it like a stencil or stamper, but that just created a lot of mess. Then I played around with some glue and paint and made more mess.

I finally settled on a combination of frosting the glass and adding lace with waterproof gloss.

Then I tidied up the mess (it didn't stay tidy for long!)
