About Me

My photo
My name is Anna, and I work as a primary school teacher in greater London. I love eating pizza and watching TV with my husband. I also love painting glass, and any other crafty pursuits that give me a chance to make a mess! I am on a bit of a mission to learn how to cook, bake, sew and generally make things before I have children. I'm trying to learn something new each day. I really value your support, so thank you for following me xx

What I learnt today... Napkin Coasters!

Day 2 of my promise to learn something new each day. Today it was decoupage! Well, a very basic version any way!

I had some UGLY coasters and some pretty paper napkins - so I got out the paint and beloved Mod Podge, and here's what happened:

First, I painted them with white acrylic paint. These needed 2 coats in the end.

When they were dry, I separated the top layer from the napkin:

Then decided which parts of the butterflies I wanted on each coaster (I wanted them to all be different) and roughly cut out 4 squares just bigger than the coaster.

Then I gently brushed Mod Podge over the napkin, allowing it to crinkle but not rip.

When they were dry, I gave them a second coat (optional) because I want them to be hard wearing.

This is how they look dry. I don't have any clear varnish, but I'll give them a coat when I get some.

Then, I'm going to give them to my mum!

Hope you've had a good day - have you learnt anything new? xx
