About Me

My name is Anna, and I work as a primary school teacher in greater London. I love eating pizza and watching TV with my husband. I also love painting glass, and any other crafty pursuits that give me a chance to make a mess! I am on a bit of a mission to learn how to cook, bake, sew and generally make things before I have children. I'm trying to learn something new each day. I really value your support, so thank you for following me xx

Handmade Monday

This week has been one of crafty ups and downs. I was really excited to get an order for 3 cocktail glasses for bridesmaids at a wedding next Saturday - but gutted to get an email saying that 2 of the 3 glasses arrived with snapped stems. I felt terrible! Especially as I can't post anymore untill Tuesday with all the bank holidays.  I thought I'd wrapped them really carefully :(  Any advice on sending fragile items would be welcome!

Anyway - onwards and upwards! There has been an infestation of butterflies in our household:

                                                                    Tea Light Holders

                                                                    Cocktail Glasses

                                                                  Champagne Glasses

                                                                  Schnapps Glasses

Looking forward to your comments as always! Please don't forget to check out the other wonderful blogs at Handmade Monday.

  1. Love the glasses!

I once heard this tip about postage: wrap everything as if you're going to kick it around the garden like a football. Not sure that's helpful with those stems, but obviously tons of bubblewrap, outer cardboard box and no movement at all. And "fragile" stickers too. You probably did all that and I'm no help at all! Hope they get there safe this time :-)
Thanks for taking part in HM x

  5. You had a fluttering week just love the glasses! So sorry to hear about the damaged glasses would it be better to pack and send as separate items, in sturdy boxes, I know this would put the price up but better than losing your creations.

Good Luck and have a great week

  6. I used to sell on ebay, and occasionally fragile things. One thing for real breakables that seemed to work for me (can't promise) is the pack it in bubble wrap and box in a smaller box (packed so it's not going to move in that box) and then in a larger box with peanuts, so it is not anywhere near an edge. That way it has a lot of cushion. I think the stems would be extra fragile, so don't know if this would work. Maybe peanuts would be better around the glass than bubble wrap, as bubble wrap might possibly actually cause torque? I'm not positive. Peanuts would allow some give and a little movement so perhaps they would not snap.

  7. Oh, and I completely forgot to say, those glasses are so stunningly beautiful. It's a shame to think of them breaking. That almost makes me cry. Of course, then I would be thinking of putting them into a mosaic.... :) But I know how disappointing that is. It's just a shame.

  8. How devastating for you after the excitement of an order to have the glasses break. What a shame.
Your butterflies look absolutely beautiful on the glasses. Love them.

  9. I love the grass behind the glasses, particularly in the champagne picture - it makes the butterflies appear to flutter even more.
P.S.I worked for Royal Mail, Fragile labels make no difference!
